To empower a community who meet regularly to support each other and uplift the voices of historically marginalized groups by creating resources and education opportunities with the goal to expose inequities, with an initial focus on racial inequities, and push for changes in local schools and communities, and to support one another in our shared goal of raising children who understand and work to resolve the inequality and prejudices in our society.
Members of Downtown DEI will use our voices to advance our mission through self-exploration, understanding of our communities, personal and group research. We collectively host events, plan educational opportunities, and share and discuss best practices in pursuit of our Mission. We work to make underrepresented members of our community feel welcome and we support those in our community who seek to join in these efforts.
To offer resources, and provide educational opportunities that promote inclusionary thinking and anti-racist and non-discriminatory behavior within our community
To create inclusive environments which affirm and celebrate individual identities
To cultivate a strong community by providing opportunities for families to build cross-cultural relationships based in mutual-respect
To support and encourage the greater downtown community in developing the communication and social-emotional skills needed to address and overcome prejudices in order for our children to become responsible citizens of the future.
To increase equity in admissions and hiring at our local schools to ensure that the student body, faculty and administration represents the diversity of our community.
